Lingfield Park and a handicap rating
Lingfield Park was Midnight Silver’s next appointment as a hurdler. We were all encouraged by her jumping and keen gallop for this finish when she debuted at Towcester earlier in the month.
Tuesday 24th November (1.00pm) – Lingfield Park – 2m3f110y 4yo+ mares maiden hurdle – Brendan Powell (10st 12lbs) – 8 declared
She ran in a maiden hurdle at Lingfield Park and the going looked suitable. But a bit of rain would help. And so the rain came. We watched her in the pre-parade ring before the race. She’s very matter-of-fact and business-like, looking around and interested but not phased by anything. She’s there to get on with her job. And she always looks beautifully turned out. The team at Jamie Snowden’s yard do a great job.
The plan for the race was to race her quietly and not make the running. Brendan Powell was up and they headed out onto a muddy course. The race seemed started slowly. And it ran that way. It was all a bit stop-go and that didn’t suit Silver. It got a bit bumpy out there too. She finished third. A good result, and with some different riding, perhaps she could have got closer.
She came out of the race fine though covered in mud. And Dan at Foxtrot always shares Jamie’s news of her the following day. There’s talk of running her of further yet as stamina and a good gallop are her strengths.
She’s now eligible for a handicap rating which she duly received and she’s starting off 114 in her next race.
